Elegy

The installation confronts the destruction of war in a defiant act of remembrance.  Journeying from home in a North London suburb to the Ypres Salient, the site of the battle of Messines, the potting shed invades the battlefield, and as Camera Obscura, it brings the landscape of war inside the domestic space.  As its title implies, the work of installation was conceived as a poem of lament to a fallen son, but one which offers consolation.  A mother’s wail of grief resounds across the graveyards of the salient, the shell craters and pillboxes, the fields of beets beneath which lie the bones of so many fallen sons.
